Development Director – Maternity Cover

The current Development Director is going on maternity leave in February 2018 and we are looking for a maternity cover to start in January 2018 in order to have a sufficient handover period.

Children & the Arts is an ambitious organisation with plans for significant growth over the next few years. The person we recruit for this maternity cover will be expected to contribute new ideas and input into strategies to help the charity achieve this growth.

Reporting to Chief Executive  
Line Management 2 x Senior Development Managers (SDM) + Communications Manager (plus indirectly, an intern and Development Co-ordinator) 
Salary £45-55,000 p.a
Contract Fixed term contract – 12 months - with three months probationary period (part-time will be considered, as will secondments from other art organisations)
Location Children & the Arts, Oxford House in Bethnal Green, Derbyshire Street, London E2 6HG


Alongside the Chief Executive, the Development Director will be responsible for overseeing the fundraising strategy and raising the fundraising target of £1.5m during the financial year April 2018 – March 2019. They will have the support of a Development team comprising two SDMs (between them overseeing the trusts/foundations/statutory strategy and events/corporate strategy), a Development Co-ordinator, and a Development Intern. The post holder will be responsible for maximising input from the newly appointed Chairman, Board of Trustees and a new Development Council.

The Development Director will oversee our Major Donor Giving programme and be responsible for maintaining close relationships with current individual donors, as well as cultivating prospects.   

On top of this, the Development Director will work with the Communications Manager to implement the Communications strategy, maximising the fundraising potential from PR, the charity’s website and social networking platforms, and helping to develop the charity’s brand and external communications activities.
