StoryQuest is a national festival of storytelling which aims to teach children about the joys of narrative and to encourage families and communities to share stories.
StoryQuest 2007 launched with Family Storytelling Day on November 2nd when all families were encouraged to sit down together and tell the stories of their family, including tales about those that have gone before, perhaps over old photograph albums. One family told us:
On the evening of November 2nd, we lit a fire in our front room and placed on our hearth a photo of my Mother’s Mother and the Common Prayer book which belonged to her Mother in 1828. I spent about 20 minutes telling my wife and three children all the stories I remembered about them and was surprised by how much I remembered. Thank you very much for being the inspiration for a new family tradition.
We hope to re-run StoryQuest in 2008. Please keep checking back to this page for more details.
StoryQuest has its own website where anyone wanting to plan their own storytelling event can get advice and tips www.storyquest.org.uk
