Children & the Arts

Children who have the opportunity to witness an inspiring performance, or stand in front of a wonderful painting, or to meet a writer or a musician, sometimes realize that they can find themselves in a world with extra dimensions - a world that is bigger, richer and endlessly stimulating. As a schoolboy was recorded saying not long ago: Shakespeare looks boring but when you’re in it’s fun.  Much the same is true of a great deal of the arts, which is why everything that Children & the Arts does - and Arts and Kids Week in particular - is so important.  Introducing young people to the arts is introducing them to something that they can understand once they’re immersed in it.  And the life rewards are enormous.” Quentin Blake on Arts & Kids Week 2006
