Fashion Design fit for Royalty

Inspired by the Enchanted Palace exhibition at Kensington Palace, 400 secondary students work with industry professionals to create their own fashion designs. This unique project allows students from high-need areas to explore the inspirational world of design.

What happens on DesignQuest?

In the 2011 pilot project, students visited the Enchanted Palace exhibition at Kensington Palace. On a special guided tour of the exhibition, the participants were introduced to items in the Royal Ceremonial Dress Collection – from debutant dresses to decorative fans from the 1670s.

Back at school, these experiences were used by the students to inspire their very own dress and jacket designs. The students were taught more about design and assisted by professional designers.

A selection of these designs were exhibited in a special celebratory event for all participating schools in summer 2011.

Who is involved?

Supported by The Burberry Foundation, this pilot project involved 400 Key Stage 3 students from schools across London. The project has been created in partnership with Historic Royal Palaces.

“We are also thrilled that the Burberry Foundation is able to present The Prince’s Foundation for Children and The Arts with a donation. These charitable organisations share a common vision to help young people be awakened and inspired by the arts, allowing them to follow their dreams.”
