Over £128,000 was raised from two hugely successful auctions in aid of The Prince’s Foundation for Children & the Arts.

Face Britain Gala Dinner & Auction

On the 9th May, the Face Britain Gala Dinner & Auction at Christies, King Street, London, featured works from artists including Tracey Emin, Sir Peter Blake, Ryan Gander, Maggi Hambling CBE, Colin Self, Angela de la Cruz and Mary McCartney.

Over £89,000 was raised from the event, with Tracey Emin’s ‘We Go to Sleep and Pray’ going for £9,000, the highest bid on the night.  See all the self portraits auctioned at Christies.

The host for the evening was musician and comedian Tim Minchin, one of Children & the Arts’ Ambassadors and composer of the Olivier Award-winning Matilda the Musical, who also performed for guests at the end of the night.  James Naughtie, another Children & the Arts’ Ambassador, spoke about Children & the Arts’ work and the impact the money raised would have, and Kola, a band from Cornwall, performed their track Driver for the Queen which is featured on one of the Face Britain’s films.

We were delighted that a number of Face Britain Patrons attended the event, including Jonathan Edwards, Ellie Updale and Emily Patrick.  See our photo’s from the event.

Face Britain eBay Auction of celebrity self portraits

Alongside the Christie’s auction, almost 50 celebrity self portraits were auctioned on eBay, raising a further £38,500 towards our work with disadvantaged children throughout the UK.  Nick Park’s Gromit portrait raised the most – £5,555 – with Ronnie Wood’s self portrait selling for £4,800 and Adele’s self portrait fetching £5,000.  See all the eBay self portraits.

Many thanks to all those who were involved in or supported the Face Britain auctions.
