Great Art Quest launched at The National Gallery

Great Art Quest 2010 at Oriel Davies Gallery

On Friday 7th October 2011 over 40 teachers, gallery education staff, artists and storytellers gathered for a teacher training day at London’s National Gallery.

The training day marked the start of this year’s Great Art Quest, which has again been generously sponsored by GAM (UK) Limited.  A packed day of talks, gallery tours, and art and storytelling workshops generated a real buzz amongst the participants.

It was such a fantastic event. I know all the teachers thoroughly enjoyed it. One of them apparently said that it was the best training session he’d ever been on!!

Following three successful years of Great Art Quest, GAM (UK) Limited will continue their sponsorship for a further three years, enabling partnerships between 12 new galleries and nearly 50 schools around the UK. In 2011/12 children from 16 primary schools will be partnered with: Dulwich Picture Gallery (London); MK Gallery (Milton Keynes); Tate St Ives (Cornwall); and Turner Contemporary (Margate). This autumn and spring nearly 500 children will visit their art gallery, take part in workshops with practising visual artists and storytellers, and then see their own artwork on display in a special finale exhibition at their partner gallery.

The children’s finale exhibitions are scheduled to take place in January at MK Gallery; in February at Tate St Ives and Turner Contemporary; and in March at Dulwich Picture Gallery.
