On Wednesday 8th June Children & the Arts’ President, His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales attended Shrek the Musical at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane for a special Royal Gala performance raising money for the Charity.

His Royal Highness met the shows cast including Nigel Lindsey who plays Shrek and Amanda Holden who plays Princess Fiona. Lindsay, more known for his more serious roles, told the Prince he spends nearly an hour and a half in make up every night creating his gruff appearance.

Jeffrey Katzenberg, Chief Executive of DreamWorks Animation SKG, the company behind Shrek said: “I think it is important that children have access to the arts. Art is very much what defines a generation. Encouraging kids to be artistic and to express themselves in all forms of art, but especially in theatre, is a wonderful thing. I think this is a fantastic charity and we’re thrilled to be part of it tonight.”

Children & the Arts would like to thank Dream Works Theatricals, Neal Street productions, Theatre Royal Drury Lane and the fantastic cast and crew for choosing to support our work. The show is currently previewing and officially opens on 14th June 2011.
