Arts organisations can now apply to be part of our Start programme for the 2011-2012 academic year.
Start aims to introduce children and young people to their local arts venue and begin to engage them in the arts, fostering what we hope to be a life-long relationship with the vibrant cultural life of the UK.
Start funds organisations to work bringing young people into cultural venues, and is based on four key themes:
Introducing young people to the arts and a venue;
Inspiring them to learn more;
Enhancing their experience through critical analysis and participation; and
Encouraging them to begin Creating their own art.
The themes are explored by the young person through at least two visits to their partner cultural organisation per year to see professional performances, concerts or exhibitions and educational work that links to and supports these visits. We aim to support each project for 3 years and build lasting relationships between venues and young people.
Ultimately, through Start we want to reach those who might never otherwise have the chance to visit their local venue and encourage students to develop the confidence and enthusiasm to continue the relationship with their partner venue beyond the life of the project.

The deadline for applications is 5pm on Wednesday 2nd February 2011.
