Children & the Arts in the News

Children & the Arts have been in the news twice over the last week as some projects come to an end, and others are just beginning.

BBC Humberside reported on Mountbatten Primary School’s winning MusicQuest competition entry, announced last July, which was performed by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra at Classic FM Live on the 30th September. Twenty-two pupils from the school in Hull made the journey down to see the concert at the Royal Albert Hall. The winning entry, composed as part of last year’s MusicQuest project had already earned the school £10,000 worth of musical intruments courtesy of Yamaha Music UK.

Meanwile, as MusicQuest came to an end for one year, a group of students were just beginning their Start project with artsdepot, seeing a performance of The Bug and The Butterfly. Local newspaper Hendon and Finchley TImes were there to report, and also spoke to Children & the Arts’ Ambassador James Naughtie, who said of the project:

“Quite often there are things children don’t get access to which could transform their experiences at a young age. It can be the beginning of an interest in art or music and in a small way can open up a vista for the children that will make them think about things differently and in a way they might not otherwise have done. There is a precious quality in being able to touch, feel and hear the arts at close quarters. This project is about avoiding the impoverishment of the imagination.
