Start set to reach over 18,000 children in 2009/10

Children & the Arts are thrilled to be working with 13 new arts partners as part of the Start programme, greatly widening our reach across the UK.

During the 2007/08 academic year, Start will allow 34 arts organisations in the UK to work with over 17,200 children.

Start Arts Partner applications 2009/10 now open.

Children & the Arts is seeking 8-10 new arts organisations to work with us for 2009/10.

Through funding from Children & the Arts’ Start programme, Northern Ballet Theatre have worked with 450 children this year, opening their eyes to the world of ballet. During the last two academic terms young people from Leeds taking part in the project have been able to see two ballet performances at the Leeds Grand Theatre and have had workshops with professional dancers from the company. For many of them it will be the first time they have ever seen ballet, or had a chance to take part in coreographing and performing their own.

The project has been a resounding success and you can see the results yourself on our youtube channel. You can also hear a podcast with interviews from some of the participants as they give their reactions to a performance of A Christmas Carol that they saw in December.
