Great Art Quest Draws to a Close

On Thursday 21st and Friday 22nd January 2010 children travelled from Glasgow, Exeter, Gateshead and across London to see their work exhibited at Wimbledon College of Art and to take part in specially designed workshops led by artists Pam Williams and Ashley Davies and storyteller Xanthe Gresham. The exhibition marked the end of The Great Art Quest 2009, sponsored by GAM, which saw 1000 children being introduced to visual art whilst getting to know their local art gallery. spacex (Exeter), The Queen’s Gallery at Buckingham Palace, The Hunterian Museum & Art Gallery (Glasgow), BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art (Gateshead) and Whitechapel Gallery (London) have been involved in the project and representatives from these galleries were also at the finale.

“The project encouraged enjoyment of art within the gallery environment and provided child centred activities and creative engagement.  It inspired the exploration of new ideas and art forms, and encouraged enthusiastic and hard working children, teachers and creative practitioners to work collaboratively together to produce an amazing body of work.”
Monica Callaghan, Head of Education at The Hunterian Museum & Art Gallery
