Music donation from Barbie®
In celebration of the success of the Barbie® as The Island Princess dvd and educational resource, Barbie is donating £5,000 of musical instruments - £1,000 each - to five primary schools selected by The Prince’s Foundation for Children and the Arts.
The five lucky schools are:
Princess Primary School in Stoke Newington where headteacher Steven Spooner said “This is fantastic news – our school houses the Hackney Musical Orchestra and this donation will mean children will have opportunitites to use equipment in their homes too”.
Goodyers End Primary School at Bedworth in Warwickshire where headteacher Rose Daniels said “Music is high profile in our school as we feel it is something that children can succeed in; and it helps to develop their creative side and broadens their experience”.
Wellesbourne Community Primary School in Liverpool where headteacher Glenys Daniels said “This donation comes at just the right time as our recently refurbished music room can now have some new percussion instruments. The children will be delighted”.
Winnall Primary School in Winchester, where headteacher Nick Smith said “We had a fire in school recently and lost all our musical equipment, so this kind donation will give us a new focus and help raise the profile of music again by enabling us to buy some new and interesting instruments”.
Parkview School in Lisburn, where music coordinator Ruth Smith said “A donation of this kind is crucial to a school like ours where children with severe learning difficulties learn so much through the medium of music”.
Rebecca Eastmond, Director of The Prince’s Foundation for Children & the Arts said “Children and the Arts were delighted to be approached by Mattel to distribute this fantastic award. £1000 worth of musical instruments will provide a much needed boost to any primary school’s music department!
Music can open a child’s eyes to the exciting world around them, inspiring them to explore their own creative ideas and learn new skills. Barbie® as The Island Princess online music resource is a stimulating and motivational tool to support the teaching, appreciation of and participation in music”.
Barbie® as The Island Princess teacher’s pack is a free education resource inspired by the story and music from the film of the same name. The tool kit is available online for teachers of Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1/P1-3 children.
