Arts & Kids Week Press Release

Hundreds of events are being staged in cultural venues around the country for children and their families this autumn half term. Classic FM and the Prince’s Foundation for Children & the Arts (formerly Prince of Wales Children & the Arts Foundation) have teamed up for Classic FM Arts & Kids Week 2007.

Running from the 20th to the 28th of October, Classic FM Arts & Kids Week is the perfect opportunity to involve your children in the full spectrum of the arts right on your doorstep. By visiting www.childrenandarts.org.uk/events  you can find out about the variety of art events taking place in your local area, from plays to painting, storytelling and music workshops to film making.

The Prince’s Foundation for Children & the Arts targets children who would not otherwise have the opportunity to experience the arts. By working in partnership with cultural venues and providing funding and support  for organisations across the UK to develop and deliver enrichment programmes, Children & the Arts provides access for young people to the very best of the arts.  Engaging with the arts enriches young people’s lives, nurtures creativity and improves self esteem.

Supporters of Children & the Arts include Richard E Grant, Penelope Keith, Kate Adie, Hugh Fernley-Whittingstall, Quentin Blake, Jeremy Irons, Hayley Westenra and Sharon Osbourne, some of whom will be participating in Arts & Kids Week.

Rebecca Eastmond, Director of the Prince’s Foundation for Children & the Arts, said “Children & the Arts week is a great way for mums and dads to give their children the chance to experience all that the creative arts have to offer. Getting involved is not only fun it can also open up a young person’s eyes to new ideas and wider horizons.”

Darren Henley, Station Manager of Classic FM said, “The arts have the power to transform lives by inspiring and developing social and emotional skills. Classic FM Arts & Kids Week is a brilliant opportunity to introduce children to the arts and show them how they can be part of everyday life.”
